A look inside the first Westpac accelerator

March 15, 2018

Tonight NoiseNet will be one of eight startups to present their innovations after completing the industry first accelerator program, FUELD. This marks the end of a 3 month Journey which was aimed at providing a space for start-ups to solve business and consumer problems using data.

The FUELD program is funded by Westpac, Stone & Chalk and Data republic, allowing startups and scaleups to harness a wide range of anonymised, tokenised data and be guided by world-class mentors. The aim is for companies to go on to commercially launch new data-driven products that will drive Australia into the future.

NoiseNet founder and CEO Stuart Clough said: "The accelerator has allowed us to focus more closely on what we are doing - away from the distractions of Brisbane, but I admit Sydney has its own distractions."

The NoiseNet team relocated from Brisbane to Sydney for the 6-month program and shared an apartment together.

"Sharing an apartment was an interesting experience - getting to know another side of the team.  Not something you would want to do long term - but definitely useful in a startup," Mr. Clough said.

"The commitment of everyone to jump into the program and move their lives is really amazing - just knowing that everyone is so committed to making NoiseNet succeed."

While in Sydney, NoiseNet acquired new employees through internships and expanded the team. Mr. Clough says this has proven to be a good 'practice run' for how NoiseNet will be able to build the business in new locations.

It wasn't just camaraderie in the NoiseNet team which made the program successful, but the overall teamwork which occurred across the FUELD cohort.

"Honestly there is not a single person across all the teams that I would not happily work with in the future," Mr. Clough said.

"We have learned a lot more about data and the data-economy.  Looking at ways that people can use the information to create value.  It has shaped the way we will build the business."

The Marketing Lead at NoiseNet Eva Thesing says the program was unique and valuable.

"Meeting so many people of high caliber and talent would have never happened without the program. I loved the support and positivity of the cohort and will miss our Friday afternoon wrap-ups."

Ms. Thesing says she is excited for the launch tonight, and the expansion of the NoiseNet services in the coming months.
